Our Norwegian Heritage

We named our boat Nordic Song to celebrate our Scandinavian ancestry.  John recently visited Norway and met some of our family relatives for the first time and was very excited to find out that one of our cousins is a sailor.

These are pictures of our 3rd Cousin Pal Amundsen's boat. Our common ancestor is our Great, Great, Grandfather Ole DeVold who's son Albert DeVold immigrated to the United States sometime in the late 19th century.  Albert's brother Peter DeVold is Pal's Great Grandfather.

Pal's sailboat is a Norwegian made boat and there were apparently only 30+ made.  The boat has an unique hull shape and appears to be a performance cruiser.  Pal is currently working on the boat so the mast is down in these pictures.  The boat is 34' long and has a similar interior layout as our Pearson 33-2.

Their marina is just outside of Oslo and they enjoy sailing in the Oslo Fjord islands.  They will often go out for a week at a time.  He describes the sailing there as very beautiful.  The last picture is a the view from his slip out into the fjord.
