LONG
ISLAND Jennifer and I made a quick overnight trip up to our boat recently. When we arrived there was no wind so we motored the few miles out to Long Island and anchored for lunch. Later we rowed ashore and had a great afternoon hiking, relaxing, and checking out the Lapointe lighthouse. The beach was absolutely deserted. There weren't even foot prints in the sand. The best part was that there were no insects! Forcing ourselves to leave we finished off the day sailing in a beautiful 10 kt. breeze. It was such a pleasant sail that we sailed right past our marina and kept on going. Long Island is a great spot to sail to if you don't have a lot of time or there is not much wind. The beach is fun and it offers miles of beach waking if your looking for some exercise. Watch out for Poison Ivy! We saw a lot of it along the path to the lighthouse. Long Island is not a very good overnight anchorage but a great daytime stop. The next morning we had only enough time to motor into Bayfield for breakfast and sail home. The sail home was excellent with 10 to 15 kts. of winds. We really didn't want to sail back to the marina but we had kids and a soccer game to get to home to. It is amazing how much fun and relaxation you can get in a 38 hour vacation.
