What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program that targets students performing below grade level in reading and math.
Students work daily in small groups with the Title teacher or a highly qualified Instructional Assistant.
The goal of Title I is to help student succeed in the classroom.
How do student's qualify for Title I?
Students are chosen for Title I by benchmark testing data. Benchmark times are in September, January and May.
How do I know if my child can receive Title I help?
If your child qualifies for Title I assistance through test scores, you will receive a letter in the mail. You will also receive information about Title at this time. We ask parents to sign a "yellow card" which is a compact between the teacher, parent, student and Title to work together to help the student succeed. You will receive the yellow card with your letter.

Games to try at home
Bang
Bang is a game to practice sight words. Place your word cards, in a “Bang” can (coffee can or other container). Include three cards that say BANG. Players take turns drawing a card, and saying the word. Players keep cards in front of them. If a player draws a “Bang” card, all his/her cards go back in the can. Play as long as you like making sure everyone has the same number of turns. The winner is the one with the most cards.
Variations: You could use facts on cards, or letter cards. For a change large popsicle sticks work nicely instead of cards.
Joker's Wild:
Practice Sight Words with Joker's Wild. Put together cards with sight words on them. Also make some cards with a star on them and one card that says Joker. Leader deals to first player who says the word. Then the dealer deals to all the other players going around in a circle. Continue until a star or Joker is dealt. If player gets a star card, deal them another card. If the Joker is dealt the game is over. Everyone counts their cards to see who has the most.
