Creative Solutions for

Classroom Behavior Management

A program for K-12 teachers, administrators, and others working with difficult, defiant, unmotivated, angry, or emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in regular or special education classes or alternative schools

Presented by Positive Concepts &

Richard M. Holzer, MD

Are disruptive students sabotaging teacher effectiveness?

One student with a behavioral problem can disrupt an entire classroom and sabotage the effectiveness of the most capable educator. Decreasing budgets and falling grades on comprehension assessment tests have made teaching a highly competitive profession where teachers are being held solely responsible for the academic performance of students, despite the many variables that educators understand comprise the ability to learn. The reality is that increasingly, teacher careers rest on academic outcomes, while behavior management becomes more challenging. There are more students with behavior problems in classrooms today, and the problems are often more severe. Most teachers were not trained to deal with these problems, yet having several students presenting with serious behavior problems as well as mental health issues is a typical classroom scenario.

In this seminar, Dr. Richard Holzer offers techniques created as a result of  reviews of evidence-based methodologies to facilitate work with difficult, defiant, unmotivated, angry, and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. Rather than 'paint-by-numbers' formulas, Dr. Holzer introduces fresh ideas to behavior management to facilitate enhanced learning, build self-esteem, and control disruptive and troublesome behavior.

The causes of these problems (conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder, bullying, societal violence, parental mismanagement, among others) will be discussed, and on this foundation, creative and practical ideas will be presented to maintain behavioral control and enhance teacher efficacy.

Dr. Holzer will stress brief intervention techniques in day-to-day behavior management in order that you might make better use of your valuable time teaching. Over 97% of our participants say this program “met” or “exceeded” expectations.

“Thank you for a terrific program. Specific practical ideas were what I needed and that is what I got.”   Donna P., 4th grade teacher,  Richmond, Virginia

“This day was packed with ideas I’ll be able to use tomorrow when I return to school. Well worth my time.”   Andrew S., high school English teacher, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

“I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your workshop. Your humor, experience (actually being in the trenches and not just quoting a textbook), and real-life stories were much appreciated. Thanks to you I have a game plan for when I get the urgent ‘FIX this student’ call from one or all of my six schools”. Shay G., Behavior Specialist, Marion County Public Schools, FL.
